The Birth of

Justin Lim

Founder of Kitmens

Justin was born in Kelantan and grew up in a family of six. His parents worked tirelessly, selling pastries at a roadside stall every evening to make ends meet. His earliest memories are of watching his mother in the kitchen, mixing ingredients with skill and precision, turning them into delicious treats. This daily activity sparked his fascination with kitchen equipment, laying the foundation for his future endeavours.

As Justin grew older, he pursued a degree in mechanical engineering, a field that further fueled his curiosity about machinery and mechanisms. During an internship abroad at a factory, his thoughts often wandered back to the kitchen mixers he had seen as a child- the mechanics behind their continuous power and efficiency.

Upon returning to Malaysia, Justin’s interest in kitchen equipment led him to start Kitmens. He wanted to create a practical and user-friendly stand mixer. To do this, he and his team bought various brands of mixers to study, dissecting them to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

The initial prototypes of Kitmens’ mixers were far from perfect. They were bulky and unattractive, but Justin saw this as an opportunity rather than a setback. He sent these early models to professional bakers for rigorous testing, gathering invaluable feedback to improve those designs.

After 1 year and 7 months of relentless hard work, Kitmens launched its first product, the KM-B5 mixer, on October 10, 2020. The response was overwhelming, with 300 mixers sold out within a week. Despite this success, Justin and his team didn’t stop there. They continued to listen to customer feedback and refined their products, ensuring that each new iteration was better than the last.

Today, Kitmens stands for high quality, elegant design, and smart technology. Each product launch is approached with the mentality of “not afraid of being slow, as long as it’s good,” ensuring that every machine meets the highest safety and performance standards before going to the market.

Justin’s mission with Kitmens is clear: to bring better products to Malaysian users and enhance the quality of their lives. Through hard work and a commitment to quality, Kitmens continues to innovate and serve its customers.

Malaysia Good Design Award, known as MGDA, is the highest design recognition from the Malaysian Government.

Official trademark certificate verifying the protection and authenticity of the Kitmens brand and its baking appliances.

Energy Efficiency Label

Kitmens proudly carries the official Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission) label, verifying its commitment to energy efficiency. Awarded a 4-star rating, this certification highlights the oven’s smart design in reducing electricity consumption by 23% compared to the lowest 2-star rated ovens without compromising performance.

In July 2021, Kitmens KM-B5 stand mixer won the competitive household category for its aesthetic yet practical design.
